Investigations still ongoing: Gateway management

Escalator has been cordoned off says Gateway management following horrific accident.

GATEWAY Theatre of Shopping has confirmed management is investigating the circumstances surrounding the accident involving a six-year-old boy who was seriously injured after his foot was caught in an escalator at the shopping mall last night. Paramedics and rescue officers worked feverishly for around three hours to free the boy’s foot.

It is understood he was on holiday with his family from the UK when the horrific incident occurred.

Aileen Rodel, events manager at Gateway, said: “The management team was on site during the course of the evening following the incident and will continue to offer support to the family during their son’s recovery. We are currently investigating the circumstances surrounding the accident,” she said.

Rodel added the escalator had been cordoned off while investigations continued.

Rescue workers and paramedics had to remove a portion of the escalator to free the boy’s leg.
