‘Rocking’ new landmark at Virginia

Dozens of members of the forum rallied together to selflessly construct the beautiful addition to the Virginia vista.

THE Virginia Community Forum recently completed their latest effort to beautify their neighbourhood – a rockery display at the Virginia Circle.

Dozens of members of the forum rallied together to selflessly construct the beautiful addition to the Virginia vista.

While some contributed several loads of sand, others donated plants and rocks. Some also spent their free time constructing the decorative two-piece landmark.

Members of the forum were also proud to mention that Zeeh Ntombela, the manager of the Parks Department, also contributed plants towards the project.

Additionally, some residents carry water to the site on a weekly basis.

According to Glenn Brickell, one of the residents involved in the project, the forum has spent the last six years continuously working on maintaining and improving the area.

“Residents made monthly or ad hoc contributions to the forum to enable the purchase and maintenance of the required equipment. On the published ‘clean-up’ days, as many as 14 residents would turn up and get stuck into the grass and cutting and the trimming the numerous palm trees which were on the site at the time,” he said.

Brickell said he was pleased to announce that the parks department recently successfully undertook the maintenance of Kentucky Drive and Danville Avenue, while the forum continues to add improvements.

When asked about the public’s reaction to the new rockery, Brickell said, “We got some positive responses while we were laying out the rockery. About six cars driving past hooted and flashed us a thumbs-up sign in support.”
