Burning rock tribute at The Barnyard

'Bornfire Hearts' sure to mesmerize audiences at Gateway.

‘BONFIRE Hearts’, a new show packed with feel-good campfire songs, takes to The Barnyard Theatre at Gateway’s stage from 21 July to 23 August. It features musical moments from all decades, with songs that will appeal to all ages.

The talented nine-piece cast of musicians and singers represent some of the greatest songwriters, sounds and voices, starting with evergreen hits from the 60’s and 70’s from the likes of The Eagles, Simon & Garfunkel, Neil Diamond and Johnny Cash.

Audiences can expect to sing along to modern-day acoustic legends such as Mumford & Son, The Lumineers, James Blunt, Bruno Mars, Avicci and American Authors; and our own homegrown legend, Johnny Clegg. Women in this genre are also featured, with tributes to Sheryl Crow, Eva Cassidy, Carole King and Taylor Swift.

‘Bonfire Hearts’ features all-time sing-along classics such as Hotel California, Sweet Home Alabama, Sweet Caroline and The Devil Went To Georgia. The show introduces lesser-known instruments such as the banjo, the mandolin and the fiddle, in addition to the piano and acoustic and electric guitars. Instrumental highlights include the all-time audience favourites, Duelling Banjos and The Lord Of The Dance. From the beauty of Hallelujah by Leonard Cohen to the heart-rending Story Of My Life by One Direction, ‘Bonfire Hearts’ is a show of musical quality, beauty, power, emotion, rhythm and harmony that features music that is universal and everlasting.

The cast is made up of vocalists, Johan Liebenberg (also on guitar), Marvin Nethononda, Corné Cornelissen and Elmé Jacobs; with the band consisting of Dene Potgieter (guitar), Calli Thompson (keyboards), Romeo Moalusi (bass guitar), Paul Cassels (drums) and Carly Nauta (violin).

Tickets are R145 per person from Wednesday to Saturday, with discounted specials of R110 per person every Tuesday night, and R100 per person for the Sunday matinée show.
