Head-on collision, four school children killed
There was a tragedy on the R102 when a truck collided with a school minibus.
A HEAD-ON collision between a truck and a school bus has left four pupils dead. The accident happened on the R102 near La Mercy. Netcare spokesman, Chris Botha, said firemen used the jaws of life to free the injured from the twisted metal.
“Paramedics climbed into the wreckage to stabilise the injured. After the patients were extricated and skilfully immobilised on trauma boards, medics transported them to various hospitals for the care that they required. Two of the critically wounded died at the scene despite the efforts of the paramedics, and another child was found in the wreckage who had tragically passed away, bringing the total deaths to four.
“Five people was seriously injured, two miraculously escaped with minor injuries and one child still remains in a critical condition,” he said.
