uMhlanga businesswoman groped during robbery
Two men, armed with a knife and crowbar, held up staff at an uMhlanga health spa.
AN uMhlanga businesswoman pretended to be HIV-positive in order to escape being raped by an armed man at her business premises. The suspect, armed with a knife, and an assailant, armed with a crowbar, robbed the business – a health spa and Thai massage parlour – on Zenith Drive in the early hours of Sunday morning.
The Asian national who owns the business said she had arranged for a worker to help her clean the premises.
According to Lt Raymond Deokaran, spokesman for the Durban North SAPS, as the owner was attempting to unlock the doors, her and the cleaner were approached by two men.
“One of the suspects pushed the owner into a room and began groping and fondling her. He then tried to rape her, and out of desperation the woman shouted out that she was HIV-positive. He then pushed her away and assaulted her, hitting her in the face and stomach.
“The second man, who was armed with a crowbar, watched over the other woman and then pried two flatscreen Sony TVs off the walls. He also stole a modem, a computer, an iPhone and R1 000 in cash,” he said.
The men then escaped on foot. A case of business robbery was opened at the Durban North SAPS.
No arrests have yet been made.
