Golden Hours to host fundraiser

Funds raised would also be used for the hostel upgrade at the school.

GOLDEN Hours School will host a community fĂȘte on Saturday, 6 June, to raise awareness and funds for the school. This special needs school currently caters for 185 children with various disabilities. Rowan Hornby, principal, appealed to residents to donate whatever they could ahead of the big day.

“I’ve been with the school for 23 years, and when I started the Golden Hours School fĂȘte was an annual event. Over the years it has fallen away, and the weekly Golden Hours Rustic Market on Uitsig Road has been our way of raising funds. But my hope is to make the community fĂȘte a permanent fixture on the calendar.

“I have been very blessed by the wonderful predecessors who laid the foundations for what the school is today. The fĂȘte is all about raising awareness for the school. We do not merely see to the education needs of the children but are also passionate about providing pastoral care and emotional development,” she said.

Hornby said the funds raised would also be used for the hostel upgrade. “We want to make the hostel a home away from home for the children,” she explained.

The school is appealing for donations in the form of ladies’ soaps, tinned food, hand lotion, books, clothes and plants. We are also looking for good quality second-hand items to sell on the white elephant stall. We will also need cakes, biscuits or tarts to sell at our cake stall and in our tea garden.

“We are also appealing for people who have unwanted gifts they are never going to use to bring them to our school. We will have a tea garden, tombola, white elephant, cake and plant stall,” she said.

These stalls will generate funds for Golden Hours.

If you can help, contact Rowan on 060 526 7520 or Lynne Wilson on 083 262 3693, or alternatively contact the school on 031 564 2350.
