IN response to PR Prangley’s letter, ‘Tired of monkey menace’. Does this person know how honoured we are to live in Africa and have an abundance of wildlife on our doorstep close by? Imagine living in, say, London or New York, where the only wildlife is probably pigeons! I think that you will find that the monkeys were here first and unlike us humans, who have no idea of respect for the land, these poor animals are in their own territory and merely trying to eke out an existence. The trees and fruit, which is their natural source of food, have been mostly annihilated by man in the Durban North area. So please answer me Mr/Ms Prangley and the other disgruntled house owners: what on earth can these poor animals live on for survival?

We should be more tolerant and understanding of nature. Please find out from Monkey Helpline (or similar) as to how you can live alongside these animals and help (not hinder) them to live beside humans. They are fascinating to watch and family-orientated, and we are truly privileged to have them near us.
