Glen Anil shooting: the full story

Four suspects held up a Glen Anil resident as they looted her home and shot another as they fled the scene last night.

THE Glen Anil community is still reeling from shock after a resident was shot and critically wounded during an armed robbery last night.

Four men are said to have targeted a neighbouring home on The Curl Road prior to the shooting, said Brian Jackson of Blue Security.

According to reports the robbers tried to gain access to the property by ringing the intercom at around 6.15pm.

“When the resident did not respond the robbers derailed the front driveway gate and forced open a sliding door to gain entry onto the property before holding up the resident and ransacking the home,” said Jackson.

When the armed response officer arrived at the scene the thieves fired several shots as they fled the scene.

A stray bullet  hit the neighbour in the shoulder, critically wounding him.

Santi Steinmann of Netcare 911 confirmed that paramedics treated a man, believed to be in his 50s, for a serious gunshot wound.

He was stabilised at the scene and transport to a nearby hospital.

The robbers escaped with a television, cellphones, jewellery and cash.
