La Lucia mom makes Mrs SA top 100

Northglen News chats to Marike Brits, a semi-finalist in the Mrs SA pageant.

LA Lucia mother of two, Marike Brits, has made it into the semi-finals of the Mrs South Africa pageant and is now among 100 other women vying for the coveted title. Her dream is to inspire and empower other women.

“My sister, husband and friends encouraged me to enter, so I did. A few years back I wouldn’t have, but I think now was the right time. My passion in life is to see women living the lives they are worthy of, to motivate and inspire them. For me this competition is a way to do that. I am a mother of two children, a career woman and a wife. I also want to give back to local charities,” Brits said.

This year the Mrs SA pageant is raising funds for the Cancer Association of South Africa (CANSA).

“Everybody knows someone who has cancer or has lost someone to the disease. So my hope is to raise funds for CANSA. Another cause close to my heart revolves around my sister who lost her child at an early age, and doctors discovered it was because of a heart defect. I want to raise awareness of the importance of groups that support families who lose their loved ones to heart defects,” she said.

The local mom is hoping to carry her message and motivation forward, as the 25 women will be selected to continue on the journey as a finalists for Mrs South Africa at the annual CANSA Gala Dinner on 24 April at Emperors Palace’s Centre Court.
