Cable thefts spark frustration in Durban North

CCTV, which captured two cable thieves in action, explains why residents in Eastview Road have been struggling without power since 4.15am.

RESIDENTS in Eastview Road in Durban North have been stuck without power for most of the day, after cable thieves struck in the early hours of this morning.

CCTV footage, which captured the brazen duo in the act, indicated that they cut the cables just after 4.15am. Residents reported that power was only restored after 7pm. The footage has since gone viral on various crime prevention social media platforms.

One of the criminals can be seen carrying a pair of bolt cutters, moments before his accomplice helps him to nimbly scramble up the electricity pole. As he scaled the pole his partner disappears into the shadows.

According to the video’s narrator the accomplice had gone to hide in the bushes as he waited for the other thief to cut the cables.
