Glenhills community aids in arrest of petty thief

Residents rallied to arrest a thief that had been plaguing homes in Glen Hills for several months.

FRUSTRATED and fed-up Glenhills residents rallied in the early hours of Sunday morning last week to aid in the arrest of a petty thief that had been plaguing the neighbourghood.

For the past two months the alleged thief targeted homes on Bougainvillea Drive, Allamanda Road and Honeysuckle Place. According to Robin Candy, of Greenwood Park CPF, the criminal was actively breaking into cars and tool sheds.

On Sunday night the thief had struck at two houses on Allamanda Drive beteen 12.30am to 2pm. At one of the homes he broke into the tool shed and looted the outhouse of R5 000 worth of items. He later returned to another property where he broke into a vehicle and inadvertently set off the alarm. The home owner spotted the suspect as he jumped over the fence.

“The resident was able to give a good description of the suspect, so when the community members got together to canvass the area he was soon spotted walking down Rinaldo Road with some stolen items. When authorities approached the suspect he dropped the stolen items and fled into the bushes. A dog from the K9 Unit was sent in after the suspect and managed to apprehend him,” said Candy.

According to Candy there has been a recent increase in petty thefts all over the Durban North area.
