Six arrested after Queen Nandi shootout

Bullets fly on the N2 as business robbery suspects open fire on police.

CHAOS reigned on the N2 (near the Queen Nandi Drive offramp) on Thursday afternoon as six men exchanged gunfire with Metro Police. It’s believed the men had been involved in a business robbery in Verulam an hour earlier. The Polo used by the suspects in the robbery was later spotted by a Metro Police unit on Blackburn Road and a high speed chase ensued.

eThekwini Metro Police’s Eugene Msomi said the men then opened fire on the pursuing officers near the Queen Nandi offramp (going north).

“We were able to stop the suspects on the N2 and no one was injured in the shootout. We apprehended the six men and three firearms were also recovered,” he said.

It’s believed an undisclosed amount of cash was also found in the suspects’ car.
