3 injured in Avoca Hills shootout

A dramatic shootout unfolded in Avoca Hills after police attempted to conduct a routine search on North Coast Road.

TWO days after the fatal shootout in Glen Anil another dramatic shooting unfolded in Avoca Hills Drive.

It is believed that a high speed chase ensued after police attempted to perform a routine search on a VW Polo on North Coast Road at 11.30pm last night. The driver refused to stop, which prompted authorities to give chase. Two passengers were also in the vehicle when it sped off.

The police chased the speeding vehicle to Avoca Hills Drive where a combination of flying bullets and a sand bank allegedly brought the Polo to a halt.

“It was said that a bullet had struck one of the back tyres, and that the driver also hit a sand bank during the chase, causing him to lose control of the vehicle. The car spun around and came to a halt where police surrounded it, preventing escape,” said Neil Powell of Crisis Medical.

Powell confirmed that all three of the men sustained minor grazes from the bullets, and were transported to a nearby hospital.
