Resident stabbed and hijacked

A Resident was stabbed during a hijacking in Avoca on Thursday, 29 January.

A RESIDENT escaped with minor injures after he was hijacked in front of his property on Shifa Road in Avoca by four men on Thursday, 29 January.

According to Lt Col Zethu Ngobese of Greenwood Park SAPS, the resident was returning home from work at 2.30pm and had just pulled into his driveway when he was confronted by the hijackers. She added that the when the men approached the vehicle they produced firearms and instructed the man to step out of the vehicle.

“It is unclear if a struggled had ensued, but the complainant was stabbed with a knife before the suspects jumped into the vehicle and fled the scene. He was transported to the hospital and is now in a stable condition,” said Ngobese.

Based on the description of the suspects, members of the Greenwood Park SAPS and crime prevention office were able to track the suspects, and a chase ensued.

“Near the Sim Place Informal Settlement the suspects abandoned the vehicle and attempted to flee on foot. Authorities where able to catch and arrest two of the suspects,” she added.
The vehicle was also recovered.
