Matric results trend on Twitter

With the results of the 2014 Matric results the pupils and the country as a whole bombarded the social media site with their views on the results.

LAST week the Twitter-sphere was aflutter with news of the 2014 matric results.
News agencies reported on both the controversy of the alleged cheating and the decline of the national pass rate from 78.2 per cent to 75.8 per cent.

It was also reported that KwaZulu-Natal had an overall pass rate of 69.72 per cent, the second lowest in the country, while Gauteng had the best pass rate with 87.7 per cent.

On a positive note there were also reports of inspiring students who had achieved exceptional results. A 16-year-old pupil skipped Grade 9 and earned six distinctions in her matric year.

A Gauteng pupil also created waves when it was revealed that she earned nine distinctions in matric. A Pietrmaritzburg pupil, who also earned six distinctions, was hailed as in inspiration when he told the media that he was the first member of his family to pass matric. He also explained how he earned his achievement despite his family’s extreme poverty.

In addition the public used the social media platform to contemplate the future of the 2014 matriculants.
