Durban North woman survives brick attack

"The robbers smashed the driver's window and a passenger window with a brick, injuring the motorist on her face," said Blue Security operations manager, Brian Jackson.

A DURBAN North resident sustained serious injuries to her face after robbers smashed in her driver side window on Sunday evening.The robbers, who were driving a red Golf 6 and a silver Toyota RunX, targeted the woman as she pulled into her driveway on Blackburn Road at approximately 6.20pm.

“The robbers smashed the driver’s window and a passenger window with a brick, injuring the motorist on her face,” said Blue Security operations manger, Brian Jackson.

The men then held the bleeding and shaken woman at gunpoint as they robbed her of an undisclosed amount of cash. They fled the scene without harming the woman further. She was later taken to the Umhlanga Hospital for treatment.

In a separate incident, a four-man gang’s plans were foiled when they ran into a gardener at a property on Mogul Crescent in Effingham Heights. They attempted to hold the gardener at gunpoint, but he managed to escape by jumping over the wall into a neighbouring property where he called for help.

When authorities arrived at the scene they found that the robbers had fled. According to Jackson the same gang also burgled a property in Kara Road in Effingham Heights. “The gang jumped over the property wall and ransacked the property before fleeing with jewellery and alcohol,” he said.

A five-man gang also targeted a business premises on North Coast Road, where they held the security guard at gunpoint as they stole computers, laptops and other equipment.

Jackson said more than a dozen incidents of robbery, housebreaking, theft, trespassing and attempted housebreaking had been reported to the company since the start of the new year.
