400k cocaine bust, drug mule nabbed

One of the suspects is believed to be a former Idols contestant.

A SUSPECTED drug mule was arrested at the King Shaka International Airport on Thursday for being in possession of R400 000 worth of cocaine. According to reports the man is Idols contestant, Ebrahim (aka Gordon) Cook. He was arrested along with two foreign nationals aged 38 and 44 respectively.

Colonel Jay Naicker, provincial SAPS spokesman said, the 24-year-old was searched at the airport after arriving on a plane from Sao Paulo, Brazil via Dubai.

“He was found in possession of cocaine weighing more than 1.14 kilograms with an estimated value of R400 000 hidden inside roll-on and shampoo bottles with his luggage. Two foreign nationals were also arrested when they arrived at the airport to pick up the suspected drug mule. They were all charged for being in possession of drugs,” Naicker said.

Cook, who was part of the Idols setup, won a golden ticket after auditioning in Port Elizabeth.

KwaZulu-Natal Provincial Commissioner Lieutenant General Mmamonnye Ngobeni applauded the police for the seizure of the consignment of cocaine and the arrest of the suspects.

“These arrests are part of our multi-disciplinary operations targeting drug dealers, aimed at making this province a safer place over the festive season. We will continue to break the back of drug dealers by intercepting such consignments that enter our country via our border posts,” she said.
