Bullets fly during high speed chase in Durban North

Two armed suspects were arrested and one was injured as they attempted to evade police.

ONE armed suspect is still at large, following a dramatic high speed chase through the busy  Kenneth Kaunda Road (Northway Road) in Durban North an hour ago.

The incident began when police spotted three suspicious men driving in a Audi A3 along Beachway Road in Broadway and subsequently began following the men, said Lt Raymond Deokaran, Durban North SAPS spokesman.

Once the trio realised that they were being followed they tried to evade police, and the high speed chase ensued. Police thwarted the suspects’ efforts and followed them all the way to Kenneth Kaunda Road, where the suspects opened fire on police.

Police returned fire, and one of the suspects was shot in the hand. The shoot-out came to a halt on Kenneth Kaunda Road, across from Our Lady of Fatima School, and the suspects attempted to flee on foot. Police managed to arrest two of the men.

However, one of the suspects  managed to evade police by jumping over several fences and hijacking a Citroen on Chelsea Drive. The vehicle was later abandoned and recovered in KwaMashu.
