Head on collision leaves 1 critical, 3 injured

Serious head on collision on Umhlanga Rocks Drive.

A HORRIFIC head on collision on Umhlanga Rocks Drive (between the Sunningdale and Somerset Park traffic lights) has left one person critical and three injured. It’s alleged the driver of a black Golf travelling north lost control of his vehicle as he rounded the corner and veered into the oncoming lane, crashing into a GWM, which flipped on to its side because of the impact.

The accident occurred at about 8.15pm on Sunday evening.

The driver of the golf sustained serious head and chest wounds, a broken leg as well as severe lacerations to the left side of his face. While the tree occupants of the GWM sustained minor injuries.

Neil Powell, from Crisis Medical, said when paramedics arrived they found the GWM on its side. He added the driver of the golf had to be rescued from the mangled wreck.

“The critical patient was extricated from the vehicle before being transported to a hospital. The three occupants from the other vehicle were treated and immobilized before being transported to hospital in a stable condition,” Powell said.
