uMgeni Park resident shot dead

Armed suspects murder home owner, ransack house.

AN uMgeni Park resident has been shot dead after armed men stormed and ransacked his home. The incident occurred on Collard Road at about 7pm. The home owner who heard a noise came down to investigate and was attacked by the suspects.

He was shot three times and died from his wounds. The men then ransacked the house and were picked up by a getaway vehicle.

The murder has rocked the close knit community and is an eerie reminder of the murder of Capt Basil Naidoo from Greenwood Park SAPS who was shot in the head while responding to a house robbery in uMgeni Park.

  1. It is with great sadness that I extend my deepest sympathies and condolences to the friends and family of the Durban North resident who lost his life to indruders on Saturday evening, 30 August.
The scourge of violent crime in our city and the country as a whole has been, and clearly remains, a serious cause for concern.
This specific incident has taken place in an area under the jurisdiction of a police station that is currently grappling with a crisis that can be seen in police stations across the country.
A diminishing staff and the lack roadworthy police vehicles has created a difficult situation and severly hampered the efforts of the remaining personnel at this station and that of a dedicated CPF. It is indeed sad that it should take a situation such as this to highlight these deficiencies.
The availability of resources to police stations such as Greenwood Park needs to be expedited as the current standard places the security of the general puplic in extreme jeopardy.
