Justin nominated for humanity award

Foxton said he felt honoured to be nominated for the national award.

AFTER being announced as KwaZulu-Natal LeadSA Hero this year, uMhlanga’s Justin Foxton is in line to win another prestigious award, this time ANN7’s South African of the Year (SATY) Award under the category of Spirit of Humanity Award. Foxton is the founder of The Peace Agency, an umbrella NPO for five projects which include; a media campaign called Stop Crime Say Hello, an information and counselling service called The Adoption Companion, a mentorship programme for vulnerable children called Bright Stars, a service to impoverished mothers called The Cookie Jar and The Baby House, a non-profit organisation that cares for abandoned or orphaned babies.

Foxton said he felt honoured to be nominated for the award.

“There are six people in the categroy in the spirit of humanity award who are all incredible people, so it’s a huge honour to be nominated. Besides the prestige that comes with these type of award shows, it offers us a platform to raise awareness for the various causes me and Cathy are involved in,” he said.

Speaking on the issue of abandonment and the orphan crisis, Foxton said he hoped to draw attention to the severity of the problem with 3 000 babies being abandoned annually in South Africa.

Under his non-profit organisation, The Peace Agency, Justin is currently establishing another baby house – which will bring the total number of baby houses to three. This new baby house will be in Hammarsdale, a poor rural area outside Pietermartizburg beset with social issues

“Many babies are abandoned or orphaned in this area. The facility will nurture and care for these babies in every way and ensure that they are adopted into loving, permanent families as soon as possible. The establishment of this facility will uplift the community at large by providing much-needed employment and a springboard for the introduction of our other programmes,” says Justin.

The ANN7 South African of the Year (SATY) Awards will be held at the Sandton Convention Centre on Saturday, 6 September. To vote for him, visit www.dstv.com/News/ANN7-announces-nominees-for-South-African-of-the-Year-awards/86165
