Millions stolen from La Lucia jewellery store

A high-end jewellery store in La Lucia Mall was robbed of more than R1-million worth of merchandise.

A GROUP of armed robbers stormed a high-end jewellery store in La Lucia at the weekend, making off with millions of rands’ worth of jewellery.

Lt Raymond Deokaran, spokesman for the Durban North SAPS, said five armed men were responsible for the store robbery on Saturday, 23 August at 9.40am. He said that the men held staff up at gunpoint and made off with more than R1-million worth of jewellery from Browns Jewellers in La Lucia Mall.

The mall’s manager, Vanessa Blevins, said in a statement: “The robbers acted so quickly that Saturday morning shoppers were completely oblivious to the fact that a robbery was in progress.”

Blevins said no one was hurt or injured, but the staff involved were traumatised by the incident.
