SARLA celebrates new rugby suite

Cell C hand over cheque of R14 400 to former Springbok captian John Smit for his charity organisation, Barney's Army.

THE South African Rugby Legends Association held their official office opening breakfast at Growthpoint Kings Park Stadium on Thursday.

SARLA President Gavin Varejes and CEO Stefan Terblanche were there to welcome all the invited guests which included local and international rugby legends John Smit, Butch James, Ian McIntosh and David Campese.

SARLA sponsors were also there including Cell C’s Dino Naicker who handed over a cheque for R14 400 to John Smit’s “Barney’s Army” charities for Cell C’s sponsorship of John Smit and Stefan Terblanche’s participation in the ABSA Cape Epic cycle challenge earlier this year.

Stefan Terblanche, ceo of SARLA thanked Sharks ceo John Smit for facilitating SARLA’s new office which overlooks the lush green main field behind the north poles.

“This allows us the opportunity of continuing our twofold mission of being a home base for former professional rugby players as well as rolling out the enormously successful VUKA development rugby programme across all rugby-playing unions in South Africa,” he said.
