uMhlanga Lagoon sewage leak fixed

Municipality issue health warning over contaminated Lagoon.

THE Waterloo sewage pumpstation responsible for the major spill into the uMhlanga River and lagoon has been fully repaired. That’s according to the  uMhlanga Urban Improvement Precinct (UIP), who said environmental staff on site say that the lagoon is flushing.

They have also reported that the pungent odour that permeated the lagoon last week has dissipated.

Earlier this morning the eThekwini Municipality issued an urgent health warning following the sewage contamination of the uMhlanga river and Lagoon.

“The public is warned not to drink river water, swim or fish along the uMhlanga River and estuary until further notice,” said municipal spokesman Thabo Mofokeng.
