Young boy dies in Umgeni Road crash

A NINE year old boy died in a serious roll over accident on the N2 North bound before Umgeni Road just after 2.30pm on Monday.

Rescue Care and EMRS paramedics said they arrived on the scene to find a single vehicle lying on its side. The little boy’s body was found next to the car.

“Paramedics quickly assessed the young child, however found that he had suffered fatal injuries and had passed away before paramedics’ arrival. He was then declared deceased. No one else was injured in the accident,” said Rescue Care’s Garitth Jamieson.

It is unclear what caused the accident however SAPS were on the scene and will be investigating the incident further.

“Traffic was severely affected as only two lanes of the freeway was open to allow traffic through, when Rescue Care paramedics left the scene the traffic was backed up all the way to spaghetti junction,” Jamieson said.
