One dead, three injured in N2 shooting

One suspected hijacker was shot dead and three others were injured in a shootout on the N2 northbound just past the Queen Nandi Drive on-ramp.

ONE person died and three others were injured in a shootout on the N2 northbound at the Queen Nandi Drive on-ramp between police and suspected hijackers about an hour ago.

A source told Northglen News police were chasing a hijacked black Volkswagen on the N2 northbound when a shootout ensued between police and the suspected hijackers. One of the hijackers was shot dead by police and three others sustained minor injuries during the shootout, which ended when the hijackers surrendered to police just past the on-ramp.

In a bizarre turn around, a police woman from Greenwood Park SAPS was injured in a collision when she responded to the scene of the shootout.

According to a source the police officer just got to the scene when a truck slammed into the back of her police van, which then smashed into the back of another police van. The police woman had minor injuries.

Netcare 911 spokesman, Chris Botha, tweeted: “Shooting incident on Nandi Drive onramp has now left the N2 obstructed as a truck hit car.”

Greenwood Park SAPS and Metro Police are on scene and will investigate the case further.
