Armed robbers target businesses

Local businesses held up in broad daylight in two seperate armed robberies.

BLUE Security has warned business owners to minimise the amount of cash held on their premises following several brazen armed robberies in Durban North over the past week.

The security company’s managing director, Darryn le Grange, said criminals had targeted three businesses in uMhlanga, Springfield Park and Phoenix and had fled with cash, a gun and other valuables. The robberies in uMhlanga and Springfield Park were committed during broad daylight in the early afternoon.

“A gang of three armed men held up a cashier at a business in Jubilee Grove in uMhlanga last Friday and fled with cash,” he said.

Le Grange said in the robbery in Seacow Lake Road in Springfield Park, two armed men had entered a business and held up the owner at gun-point and demanded cash. They fled with a cash box.

“In light of these incidents we urge businesses to try and minimise the sum of cash held on the premises as criminals often plan their attacks around month end hoping to find money on site. It’s also wise to install CCTV surveillance cameras on site as these act as a deterrent because they can help the police and security companies to identify suspects in the unfortunate event of an incident.”
