Mannie’s hard work is recognised

Glenore Centre's night-time carguard, Mannie Munnah, has received a vocational award for feeding the needy from uMhlanga Rotary Club.

PHILANTHROPIST by day and carguard by night. Yes, we’re talking about Mannie Munnah.

Mannie, who runs feeding schemes in Glenashley, La Lucia, Phoenix and at Grace Family Church in uMhlanga, is also Glenore Centre’s friendly and dedicated night-time carguard.

“What inspired me to run feeding schemes was a saying I once read that said the hands that serve are mightier than the lips that pray,” Mannie said.

Realising the dire straits some of his community members were in, Mannie approached a few stores for assistance.

Now Mannie collects food from Woolworths at the Engen garage in La Lucia, Glenore KwikSpar, Good Luck Foods and many other local stores daily to feed those in need.

Northglen News first introduced Mannie to the community in November 2011 and since then, Mannie’s hard work has been recognised.

One such recognition, which Mannie said he was honoured and humbled to receive, was a vocational service award for feeding the needy, awarded to him by uMhlanga Rotary Club recently.

“I met a man once who asked me what I was doing with all the food I collect. He told me he was a Rotarian, but I don’t even recall getting his name. Before I knew it, Rotary gave me this award,” Mannie said.
