Local archer right on the mark

Local archer to represent SA in world youth champs in China.

THERE certainly isn’t anything wrong with Devanique Rossouw’s eyesight. The Sunningdale resident proved this after winning both the national indoor and outdoor national archery champs and has now been selected to represent South Africa in the upcoming World Archery Youth Championships in Wuxi, China.

Devanique’s love for the sport started at the young age of seven and since then she has not looked back. “My dad is also an archer and the first time he took me hunting I was hooked. I wanted to learn more about the sport and my passion has grown everyday

For the Port Natal Grade 9 pupil though, nothing comes close to being awarded her Protea colours. “Receiving my Protea colours was an amazing feeling and it will be one of my most treasured moments. It’s been a dream since I started compound archery,” she said.

Though she’s yet to compete internationally, the Kings Park Archery Club member said she was looking forward to the challenge ahead. “I don’t know what to expect but it’s going to be invaluable experience and a measuring stick to see how competitive archers from the rest of the world are,” she said.

As a three-time national title winner (two indoor titles and one outdoor title), you’d be hard pressed to deny Devanique, and her trusty bow, Pearl White, her shot at glory.
