Company donates bras for charity

Thanks to a hearty donation, Highway Hospice will continue to generate income for those in need through its Ithemba bag project.

LISA Clifford, owner of the Liza Clifford Professional Bra Fitting Studio, was the inspiration behind JHI’s collections of bras to be donated to the Highway Hospice Ithemba Bra Bag project.

When Reinette van Rooyen read about Lisa’s involvement with the project, she knew it was a project the staff of JHI, a property services company, would gladly support.

The project, which started more than five years ago, came about when the hospice identified a need for their patients who had gotten better, or those families who have been left destitute after the loss of the main breadwinner, to make an income, but found it hard to get jobs.

Bags of clothing are sold to those identified, who in turn then sell the clothing for an income.

Highway Hospice’s Rosemary Luthuli then packaged bras separately, which were also sold separate to the clothing bags, also to be sold for an income.

“We have found that through selling these clothes and bras, family members were able to put food on the table again and support their children,” said Sheryll de Jager from the Highway Hospice’s Pinetown shop.

JHI donated a staggering 164 bras for re-sale.
