Roadworks around Oceans Mall to be complete by October, says City

This was revealed at a recent meeting at a recent ratepayers’ meeting with the eThekwini Municipality.

THE eThekwini Municipality has assured residents and ratepayers of uMhlanga that roadworks around the Oceans Mall will be completed in October this year.

This was revealed at a recent meeting between the uMhlanga Ratepayers’ and Residents’ Association (URRA) and the eThekwini Municipality.

The meeting was called to address service-delivery issues in the area and was led by eThekwini mayor Mxolisi Kaunda and eThekwini speaker Thabani Nyawose at the Moses Mabhida Stadium last Thursday.

In February last year, ward councillor Nicole Bollman said the developers had confirmed that all the roads around the mall would be upgraded, including Lighthouse Road, Lagoon Drive and Ridge Road, to allow for more free traffic flow and easier access into uMhlanga Village.

In response to the challenges raised, the municipality said it is working on several service-delivery concerns, including finalising consultations of a new holding area for taxis and buses in and around the mall and village.

According to the City, a site has already been identified.

“The City has assured ratepayers that roadworks around Oceans Mall will be completed in October this year. Regarding law enforcement, Metro Police has beefed up its personnel by 35 members in the area to maintain high visibility. They will be conducting joint operations with the South African Police Service,” said eThekwini mayor Mxolisi Kaunda.
