Armed gang comes under fire in Avoca Hills robbery

The suspects made off with the homeowner’s vehicle in the incident.

AN armed gang is still at large after their involvement in a robbery on Draegar Place in Avoca Hills just after 13:30 on Monday afternoon.

A neighbour, who allegedly saw the armed robbery being carried out, opened fire on the suspects, leading them to flee the scene in their getaway vehicle, a Suzuki Ertiga, and the homeowner’s vehicle, a VW Polo.

According to Marshall Security’s Tyron Powell, the suspects were armed with handguns.

“Members of our Special Operations Team (SOT) responded to the incident in Avoca Hills. It was established the suspects were involved in a house robbery when a neighbour opened fire on the suspects, causing them to flee.

“It is believed that some of the suspects were injured in the shoot-out, however, that has not been confirmed. Members of the SOT and Greenwood Park SAPS Trio Crimes Unit recovered the homeowner’s vehicle in KwaMashu A-section, and a short while later, the suspect’s vehicle was recovered in KwaMashu in G-section,” he said.

It is understood the suspects are still at large.

The incident follows a house robbery which led to a shoot-out on Firwood Road last Friday.

Multiple spent cartridges were found at the scene of the robbery, and the suspects involved in the robbery made off with several items, including the homeowner’s vehicle, which was later recovered as abandoned in Greenwood Park.
