Reddam House Umhlanga learners give back on Mandela Day
Learners, staff and volunteers all helped make a variety of things which will then be distributed to various charities and those in underprivileged areas.
COMMUNITY service was at the heart of Reddam House Umhlanga’s activities on Mandela Day on Tuesday as learners, staff, parents and volunteers joined hands to give back.
Learners from the prep and high school were involved in various activities from making sandwiches to packing meals to creating items for Early Childhood Development centres.
Educator at the school Claire Sayer said the response from all those involved really encompassed the school’s motto.

“Our school’s motto is ‘We Shall Give Back’ and we fully ascribe to that. Community service is something we pride ourselves in, and we are always willing to make a difference. Learners made sandwiches which will be distributed to feeding schemes for disadvantaged communities while others also helped create toys and other items for non-profit organisation (NPO) Clothes to Good,” Sayer said.
One of the parents who also volunteered on the day, Justine Barrington, said it was important to give back, especially on Mandela Day.
“It’s exciting being involved and doing something for people in need. I love the unity shown by the school and all the staff and volunteers,” she said.
