Youth Day Fest to inspire North Durban community

The event, hosted by Parkhill Secondary School, in collaboration with non-profit organisation (NPO) Destiny Fulfilled, will provide the community with various performances on the day.

MENTORING and promoting positive youth involvement are just two of the facets of the upcoming Youth Day Fest on Friday, June 16 in Greenwood Park.

The event, hosted by Parkhill Secondary School, in collaboration with non-profit organisation (NPO) Destiny Fulfilled, will provide the community with various performances on the day through live music, poetry, motivational inserts and a five-a-side football tournament.

The event, which runs from 09:00 until 15:00, is free to the public and will also have a flea market for local traders.
Michelle Tryon, who is the founder of Destiny Fulfilled and a former pupil at the school, said she hoped the event would be transformative.

“The Youth Day Fest serves as a catalyst for empowerment programmes within the school and will also offer some of the learners the opportunity to showcase their talents on the day. We want to use this event to promote positive peer accountability and involvement. In fact, our NPO is dedicated to empowering the youth and fostering meaningful change. Parkhill Secondary is part of this community, and our aim is to do something for the community,” she said.

Principal of the school Larry Naidoo echoed Tryon’s sentiments.

“We are really looking forward to the event. I think Michelle mentioned it, but we would like the community to get to know about our school and our culture. We want to forge a stronger bond with them as well as showcase our school’s talents. For me, one of the most exciting parts of all of this is our school choir. They will be performing on the day, which has motivated them to be a part of the fest. We really hope the community comes out and supports the event. There is something for everyone to enjoy and most of all, a fun-filled day for the whole family,” he said.
