Help the homeless with Grace Church clothes collection

The church will host a sorting day on Saturday, May 27 to help box clothing and pack clothing items.

GRACE Family Church is urging north Durban residents to give back to a good cause by supporting this year’s Street Store.

The Street Store helps hundreds of homeless people to have a dignified shopping experience, and the church has partnered with the Denis Hurley Centre to host the event.

Speaking to Northglen News, Dave Richter of the church said they will host a sorting day on Saturday, May 27 at its uMhlanga campus, and they are in need of volunteers and donations.

Richter said residents can get involved by taking a look through their cupboards and donating to the cause.

“We are calling for donations of clothing, shoes and bags. We’ve had an influx of donations, but we are really looking for mens’ slim/small sizes in clothing. The donations can be dropped off at the Grace uMhlanga church campus during the week between 08:00 and 15:30. There is also a large shipping container based at Grace uMhlanga, and the target is to fill it to the brim with various items needed,” he said.

Richter said the church will host a sorting day, to sort and pack the clothing on Saturday, May 27 from 07:30 to midday.

“We welcome anyone from the community to come volunteer and help to sort clothes into sizes and box them. This is about giving back, but also, it is a lot of fun for the whole family. You can give as much time as you want, and as the saying goes, ‘Many hands make light work’. The task is to get the clothes all sorted and boxed so they are ready for the Street Store at the Denis Hurley Centre on June 3,” he said.
