Umhlanga Hindu Society donates to Gift of the Givers

The society donated R321 000 to help aid the humanitarian organisation in their efforts.

INSPIRED by humanitarian organisation, the Gift of the Givers Foundation, the Umhlanga Hindu Society held a special interfaith programme on Thursday to honour the organisation and its founder, Dr Imtiaz Sooliman.

The society donated an incredible R321 000 to the foundation after their recent humanitarian efforts in earthquake-devastated Syria and Türkiye.

Doctor Suren Lutchminarayan from the society explained the heartfelt donation reflected the collective efforts of individuals and communities who refuse to turn a blind eye to the plight of those affected by natural disasters.

“Since its inception, we, as the Umhlanga Hindu Society, have been instrumental in outreach and fundraising initiatives toward community upliftment and disaster relief. Not only have we served our own community during the floods in 2022 and the KZN unrest in 2021, but we’ve also supported other communities in surrounding areas.

“The common belief of a One World Family led us to identify the Türkiye and Syria disaster as a cause worth supporting. The R321 000 donation presented to Gift of the Givers served as a testament to the power of collective action and generosity within our society,” Lutchminarayan said.

Doctor Imtiaz Sooliman also expressed his heartfelt gratitude for receiving the donation and emphasised that this contribution will play a vital role in helping Gift of the Givers expand their relief efforts, reach more affected communities, and alleviate the suffering caused by the earthquakes.

“The donation is a stark reminder that the bonds of humanity transcend religion, belief and geographical boundaries. It reflects the interconnectedness of global communities and highlights the significance of providing assistance to those in need, regardless of their location or background,” he said.
