Durban North police request help in M41 accident case
Investigators are still gathering statements from some of those involved in the accident scene which brought traffic to a standstill on March 6.
DURBAN North police have requested the public’s assistance in the form of any video footage or eyewitness accounts of the multi-vehicle crash involving a truck and more than 45 vehicles on the M41 on Monday, March 6.
The accident saw 16 people, including a pregnant woman who had to be airlifted to hospital, treated for various injuries after a truck, allegedly driven by Sithulile Zulu, rammed into the vehicles.
It is alleged the brakes of the truck failed, causing the multi-vehicle accident, which saw Zulu crash through a fence near the M4 hairpin bend almost a kilometre away from the scene.

Captain Raymond Deokaran, spokesperson for the Durban North SAPS, said investigators are still gathering statements from some of those involved in the accident scene which brought traffic to a standstill.
“What we are specifically looking for is video footage from any dashcam or cellphone of the accident unfolding. That means from the first contact with the first vehicle and anything preceding that. We would also like to stress that this does not only have to be people who were directly involved in the accident. Any information presented will be treated as confidential. We are still gathering statements from those involved who were badly injured,” he explained.

Meanwhile, Sithulile Zulu made his third appearance in the Durban Magistrate’s Court last week for his bail application hearing which has now been postponed to March 31.
