WATCH: High-speed chase along M4 leads to arrest of car-theft suspect

Law enforcement also recovered multiple vehicle-breaking implements from the suspects’ car.

DASHCAM footage of a high-speed chase between members of Marshall Security’s Special Operations Team (SOT) and suspects, believed to be part of a car-theft syndicate, has emerged.

The suspects, who attempted to evade arrest, had allegedly tried to steal a vehicle from an uMhlanga boat club on Monday evening just after 19:00.

The high-speed chase, which began on Umhlanga Rocks Drive and continued along the M4, ended in Morningside when the suspects lost control of their getaway vehicle and crashed on Currie Road.

One suspect was arrested while his accomplices were able to escape on foot.

According to Marshall Security spokesperson Tyron Powell, members from the Cato Manor SAPS Trio Crimes Unit, the Durban K9 unit and the Urban Defence arrived on scene to assist locating the suspects.

“Unfortunately, after an extensive search of the area, they managed to evade arrest. Upon searching the getaway vehicle, multiple vehicle-breaking implements and computer boxes, which are used to steal motor vehicles, were found. The suspects’ vehicle was fitted with cloned number plates, and the original number plates were found in the vehicle. The suspect and the vehicle are believed to be linked to multiple motor vehicle thefts in the greater Durban area,” he said.

Powell added that the suspect, together with the vehicle that was used in a commission of crime, were transported back to the Durban North SAPS.
