Durban’s Super Giants launch kits for SA20 competition

Durban's Super Giants received a warm welcome from eThekwini Municipality when they launched the kits.

DURBAN’S Super Giants announced their arrival to South African shores with an official jersey launch held last week at Hollywoodbets Kingsmead Stadium.

They are one of the six exciting franchises to play in the upcoming SA20 league, which is set to start in January 2023.

Durban’s Super Giants received a warm welcome from eThekwini Municipality International Relations head Eric Apelgren as well as several Dolphins and Cell C Sharks players.

Protea wicketkeeper-batsman Quinton de Kock was also named captain of the team, with the addition of veteran Jonty Rhodes to the existing coaching set-up of local legends Lance Klusener and Morne Morkel.

The Durban’s Super Giants jersey was a significant step in a new direction for the RPSG Group, owners of the popular IPL franchise Lucknow Super Giants.

“Drawing inspiration from the colours of the South African flag, and the national symbol, the jersey also features patterns that pay homage to the countless artists that call Durban their home,” explained team CEO Vinod Bisht. “Our family has become bigger with the addition of Durban’s Super Giants, and we are excited to represent this vibrant city in one of the most sought after leagues in the world.”

Local resident and Protea bowler Keshav Maharaj also sported the new-look jersey, saying he hoped to make Kingsmead their fortress in the competition.

“We are a very balanced side and have all our bases covered, but what will differentiate us is the fun and enjoyment factor. We intend to make Kingsmead our fortress,” he said.
