Pedestrian mugged at gunpoint in Effingham Heights

The suspects were seen fleeing the crime scene in a white Toyota Etios.

YET another pedestrian has been mugged by an armed gang in Effingham Heights. This occurred on Ramchand Road on Monday afternoon.

Swift Private Security spokesperson Sanveer Sooklall said officers responded to the incident just after 15:45.

“A resident noticed a white Toyota Etios sedan (no number plate) hold up a female pedestrian at gunpoint. The suspect then robbed her of her personal belongings and jumped into the getaway vehicle. We patrolled the area, but unfortunately, the victim had fled into one of the nearby informal settlements and no further information was given to us,” he said.

Sooklall said it was uncertain how many other suspects were in the vehicle.

Two weeks ago, a pedestrian managed to fend off robbers in an attempted robbery on Celtic Road in Greenwood Park.

In all, there have been four incidents – one attempted mugging and three muggings – in the area.
