Driver shot dead in hijacking on Chris Hani Road

This is the third incident involving a taxi driver who was shot in a hijacking in the last two months.

A MAN, believed to be a taxi driver, was fatally shot in a hijacking on Chris Hani Road (North Coast Road) on Monday evening.

According to Marshall Security spokesperson Tyron Powell, this is the third incident involving a taxi driver who was shot in a hijacking in the last two months.

“In last night’s incident, reports from the scene initially indicated that a pedestrian was struck by a Toyota Quantum on North Coast Road between Blackburn Road and Adrossan Road. It was later established by our members on scene that this was not that case, and that an unknown male was fatally shot and hijacked of his Toyota Quantum. The scene has been secured by our team members on scene, and they are waiting for the SAPS,” he said.

Parts of the taxi, including body panels and the dashboard and lights, were later found in Cottonlands on Monday evening by Tracker SA and Reaction Unit South Africa (RUSA).

Two weeks ago, armed suspects attempted to hijack the driver of another Toyota Quantum.

“The suspects posed as passengers. During the hijacking, the suspects shot the driver of the Quantum. The driver then crashed into the median on North Coast Road. The suspects abandoned the vehicle and hijacked a second vehicle, a Suzuki Dzire. That vehicle was later recovered in the Avoca Hills area by private security company Netstar ground team and the Provincial Trio and Vehicle Task Team,” he said.

He added that in the previous incident two weeks ago, the taxi driver was rushed to hospital privately, and his condition is currently unknown.
