Robber linked to uMhlanga stabbing case arrested

The suspect was found in possession of a brown knife and is believed to be linked to other robbery cases in the area.

DURBAN North SAPS spokesperson Captain Raymond Deokaran has confirmed that a robber, allegedly linked to an armed mugging and stabbing incident in uMhlanga earlier this year, has been arrested.

The suspect has been remanded into custody at Westville prison while investigations continue.

According to Deokaran, the suspect was found in possession of a brown knife at the time of his arrest two weeks ago.

“We believe the suspect may be linked to more cases in the area. He has been linked to a robbery committed earlier this year where a lady was stabbed and robbed of her cellphone. He was arrested on Gateway Avenue in the uMhlanga Ridge area after an attempted mugging,” he said.

Earlier this year, police had warned pedestrians of muggings on the M41 interchange close to the uMhlanga New Town area.

“At the time, we had reports that at least two of the incidents involved more than one robber, and they were armed. They targeted female pedestrians waiting for taxis or walking home,” he said.
