“A chase and shootout ensued on the N2. In the vicinity of Tongaat Toll Plaza (southbound), three suspects sustained gunshot wounds and were treated by paramedics. The second getaway vehicle managed to escape and continue down the highway. In proximity to the King Shaka airport off-ramp, four more suspects, in the second getaway vehicle, sustained fatal gunshot wounds during an exchange,” Herbst explained.

Marshall Security’s spokesperson Tyron Powell confirmed that the company’s Special Operations Team (SOT), IPSS Security Operations and the Phoenix SAPS Trio Crimes Unit were involved in the case.

“It is alleged that the suspects had robbed a store in Empangeni and fled the scene. The vehicles were spotted on the N2, and a chase ensued. In both instances, the suspects opened fire on our teams, and we returned fire. We returned fire, and four suspects were fatally injured near the King Shaka Airport off-ramp,” Powell said.
