Billion-rand hotel opens in uMhlanga

The country's A-listers converged at the gala, black-tie, official opening event on Friday.

THE R1b Radisson Blu Hotel and apartments are set to open to the public on June 6.

Vivian Reddy, co-developer of the R4.5b Oceans development, announced that phase 1, being the 206-key 5-star Radisson Blu Hotel and the 95 apartments, is complete.

Construction teams have worked feverishly to meet the target date of the opening.

The hotel boasts a 600-seater conference and event venue which can be subdivided into smaller sections. The Fire Lake Grill House & Cocktail Bar located on the sixth floor with amazing ocean views will be an all day dining facility.

The hotel adjoins the upmarket Oceans Mall which will be home to numerous international iconic fashion brands.

“I chose the Radisson Hotels as they are the second largest hotel group in the world and have a major presence in Africa,” said Reddy.

Among those who attended were His Majesty King Misuzulu kaZwelithini, whose late father, King Goodwill Zwelithini, launched the Radisson hotel over two years ago, Miss South Africa and the cast of the successful Real Housewives of Durban reality show.

Others were Premier Sihle Zikalala, cabinet ministers, the Mayor of eThekwini and other leading captains of the leisure industry in South Africa.
