Unite for safety and clean your hands this World Hand Hygiene Day

Practicing hand hygiene helps protect the health and safety of patients and health workers.

TODAY is World Hand Hygiene Day, as declared by the World Health Organization (WHO).

This year’s theme focuses on organisation’s quality and safety climate or culture, encouraging patients and their family members to join health workers in their efforts to practice good hand hygiene.

According to WHO, every year, hundreds of millions of patients around the world are affected by health care-associated infections.

More than half of these infections could be prevented by caregivers properly cleaning their hands at key moments in patient care.

“This year’s theme for World Hand Hygiene Day is focused on recognising that we can add to a facility’s climate or culture of safety and quality by  cleaning our hands. A strong quality and safety culture will encourage people to clean their hands at the right times and with the right products,” the organisation said on its website.
