Greenwood Park Primary School welcomes mobile library donation

The donation was as a result of the late Professor Yusuf Karodia's Million Books Campaign.

BOOKS have the power to introduce youngsters to a world of imagination and expand their horizon.

This is the hope for Greenwood Park Primary School, who, last week, received their first mobile library, which can be wheeled from one class to another, making it easily accessible to learners.

The donation was as a result of the late Professor Yusuf Karodia’s Million Books Campaign.

MANCOSA started the rollout of the million books project in collaboration with Ahmed Motala, CEO of the New Africa Education Foundation and the Department of Basic Education (DBE).

Jill Booley, an educator at the school said they were blown away by the donation.

“We were totally in awe when we were contacted by Yusuf Karodia Foundation. One of the heartwarming things is that Professor Karodia’s family were on hand and his granddaughter gave a speech on his legacy and how reading is essential to improving the future of our children.

“We have been longing for a library and don’t have a vacant classroom to accommodate one. The donation of three mobile cabinets full of books, 900 to be exact, is so exciting for the learners and the staff. We hope it will be a vehicle of change for our youngsters in years to come. We would like to thank all those involved who have made this possible,” she said.

Through the campaign more than 60 previously disadvantaged schools across the country have been the recipients of the MANCOSA mobile libraries.
