Drugs worth R7m seized from uMhlanga flat

Police found cocaine, mandrax and ecstasy and two people were arrested during the operation.

A 36-YEAR-OLD suspect was arrested on Thursday last week in a drug raid at an uMhlanga Ridge apartment.

According to Provincial SAPS spokesperson, Lieutenant Colonel Nqobile Gwala, drugs to the value of R7m was seized in the operation.

Police officers from the Provincial Drug and Firearm Unit caught the suspect who was busy packing and transporting drugs.

“The information was confirmed and a search warrant was obtained at court. A 36-year-old man was found at his premises busy packaging drugs. He was found in possession of 17.45kg of cocaine powder, 8470 pieces of rock cocaine, 155 moons of cocaine, 714 mandrax tablets, 78 ecstasy tablets and 46 orange and white capsules of heroin. The suspect was placed under arrest for possession as well as dealing in drugs.

“The recovered drugs are valued at approximately R7m. While the team was busy conducting a search, a 29-year-old woman obstructed police officers from executing their duties. It was established that she was in the country illegal. She was placed under arrest for defeating the ends of justice and also for Immigration Act,” Gwala said.

Both suspects are due to appear before the Durban Magistrate’s Court this week
