Large rock used in mugging on M4 near Glenashley

The patient was treated on scene before being transported to hospital.

A PEDESTRIAN was assaulted with a large rock and then robbed by two suspects on the M4 near Glenashley on Friday evening.

Netcare 911 spokesperson, Shawn Herbst said paramedics responded to the incident near the Ann Arbor Road turn-off just after 18:50.

“Reports indicate that a 20-year-old male had sustained serious injuries after being assaulted with a rock and robbed of his belongings. The suspects made off with his cellphone, jacket and shoes. On arrival of paramedics, the patient was being given first-aid by Marshall Security armed reaction officers who stopped the bleed.

“On assessment, the patient sustained serious head injuries and was treated on scene by an advanced life support paramedic. The patient was treated on scene before being transported to hospital,” he said.

The mugging comes days after police warned of a spike in pedestrian robberies on the M41 near uMhlanga.
