VIDEO: Two injured in Umgeni Road ‘street racing’ accident

According to paramedics, one of the vehicles ploughed into a crowd of people after the collision.

TWO people have been injured, one critically so, in an accident at the intersection of Umgeni Road and Intersite Avenue.

Paramedics from Netcare 911 and Emer-G-Med responded to the incident just before midnight on Saturday.

Kyle van Reenen spokesperson for Emer-G Med said the accident was related to ‘street racing’.

“Two vehicles collided at high speed and high impact, with one of the vehicles leaving the road and ploughing into a crowd of people. Reports from the scene are that two people were left injured, one critically so. They were treated and stabilized on scene before being taken to a nearby hospital for further care.

“It is alleged that the incident is related to illegal street racing activities in the area, however this is speculative and will form the subject of a South African Police Services investigation,” van Reenen said.

Cellphone footage shows a vehicle doing a donut moments before the accident occurs.
