The extent of the damage to the centre is approximately R400-million and large areas were damaged by fire which had also resulted in electrical, mechanical and structural damage.

MANAGEMENT of the Springfield Value Centre (SVC), has confirmed the looted and damaged shopping centre will be rebuilt and fully functional by the Spring of 2022.

Sharmaine Ramsahai, centre manager at Broll, which manages the SVC, said the entire centre was impacted during riots and looting in July last year.

Ramsahai revealed that 85% of the centre was damaged to such an extent that a complete rebuild is required.

At present, only Pick ‘n Pay and Wimpy are trading at the centre.

Ramsahai added that all involved were working very closely with the City to expedite the rebuilding of the centre.

“Irrespective of the possible challenges, we are committed to having the centre trading as quickly as possible and we anticipate that it will be up and running by Spring 2022. This is quite apt as this is symbolic of the rise of Springfield Value Centre in spite of the adversity that the centre and the community have endured as a result of the riots,” she said.

She added that more details about the rebuild will be shared on the centre’s social media pages and website www.springfieldvaluecentre.co.za.
